Celebrities

So yesterday I told you that Snooki’s boyfriend of like 2 months proposed to her in Steppin’ Out Magazine. Well, Snooki gave her answer and she said no. She does not want to marry Jeff.

Officials in Edmonton, Canada are upset at Lady Gaga because she posted a picture of a sign that said “This Is Oil Country” but the “o” in Country wasn’t working. They believe that she has soiled the name of the city. Mayor Stephen Mandel said: “Some things are disgusting and you shouldn’t have to talk about them. I think she was purposely trying to demean our fair city.” (Seriously?!?! Get a life or at least fix your stupid sign)

Unfortunately, Mr. Mariah Carey needs to think before he speaks. Nick Cannon was asked in an interview what he thought about the possibility of twins. Nick replied: “Yeah. Whatever, Octomom it. Have nine babies at once. I would be just as happy that I got the chance to experience a child at all.”

Rumor has it that Captain America actor Chris Evans is dating actress Amy Smart. No official word from their reps yet.

Sixty-seven year old Calvin Klein has gotten himself a 20-year-old boyfriend and get this… Nick Gruber is an aspiring underwear model (Are you surprised?)

TV/Movies/Music

Axl Rose fire the Guns N’ Roses’ entire crew after the band was cut off and slapped with a huge fine for playing past curfew this weekend in Reading, England. The thing is that Axl is the reason they went over. He overslept and that caused the delay. Here is what a source said: “Axl has a very firm rule that he is not to be woken up whenever he is asleep. That proved costly at Reading. Axl was furious. He refused to take responsibility and blamed his team, so he sacked them all.”

Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream took the #1 spot on the charts this week. She sold more than 194,000 copies. Fantasia took the #2 spot after selling 122,000 copies of her Back to Me album.

Rihanna tweeted Ryan Seacrest that her new single will be coming out in less than 10 days! “ur gonna play it OVER and OVER, like I’m the only girl in the world.”

Bethenny Frankel told Us Magazine that she will not be returning to The Real Housewives of New York City for their upcoming fourth season. “Last season was scary and painful. It took all the joy out of it.”

NBC has renewed America’s Got Talent for a sixth season. Also, all the same judges will be returning (Piers Morgan, Sharon Osbourne and Howie Mandel) and Nick Canon will be the host.

Rumor has it that Justin Bieber was going to acting in a remake of the movie Grease. His rep stated yesterday that the rumor is not true.

Mary J. Blige has announced that she is planning a US tour and that Jasmine Sullivan is going to be her opening act. That should be a great concert!

Rumor has it that Rick Moranis will come out of retirement to reprise his role in the third Ghostbuster movie. Also, Oscar, Sigourney Weaver’s child from Ghostbuster 2, will join the team in this film.

Drake, who just released his debut album in June, is actually working on his next album. AND… it could be released later this year! Although most music experts think the label will probably wait until February to release it.

Because of his Jersey Shore contract, The Situation cannot start rehearsals for Dancing with the Stars until Sept. 11th. That means he will be two weeks behind everyone else in rehearsal. (Hopefully he is a quick learner otherwise it is bye-bye)

A 9/11 Rock Musical? Well… actually Clear Blue Sky is not so much about the events of 9/11 but about the lives of 11 New Yorkers after the attacks and how they cope and live their lives. Clear Blue Sky opens Friday at Quad Cinema in New York.

Legal Issues and Politics

The Pacific Justice Institute has filed a lawsuit in an attempt to force Governor Schwarzenegger and Attorney General Jerry Brown to defend Prop 8 in the appeal process. One of the biggest concerns right now for the proponents of Prop 8 is that the Circuit Court of Appeals might not hear the case because they do not have standing. The interesting thing is that almost exactly one year ago, this group and the other Religious Right people loved the Attorney General of Wisconsin for NOT defending the law when Wisconsin passed its domestic partnership law and a case was brought up against it.

A Texas court of appeals has reversed a lower court’s ruling that called the state’s ban on same-sex marriage unconstitutional. The case started when two men who were legally married in Massachusetts wanted to get a divorce in Texas. Texas says they cannot get divorced because they are not legally married in Texas, but the men are saying that they can’t marry other people because they are legally married already. This new ruling by the appeals court brings the couple back to where they cannot divorce and that the marriage ban is still in effect. Again the court used the whole same-sex-marriage-is-not-a-right-because-it-hasn’t-been-done-before-in-Texas excuse. The next step is the states Supreme Court. (Hopefully, Texas’ Supreme Court will reverse that decision. If not though, the couple should take this to federal court. Since DOMA stops Full Faith and Credit on gay marriage what happens if one of the guys marries a woman and then moves to Massachusetts? Now that guy is legally married to two people but the federal government only sees one marriage.)

In June, two US Marines were arrested in Savannah, GA, after beating a gay man they claimed had winked at them. The victim was hospitalized after suffering two seizures at the site of the attack. On Friday, the Savannah DA announced that the crime will not be charged as a hate crime because it is not a felony. “For a crime to be a felony [which a hate crime is considered to be] there has to be proof of a sustained injury. It’s my understanding that the two men only punched Daly. His medical records could not upgrade the charge from a misdemeanor to a felony.”

Toni Braxton now has another home that is in foreclosure. First it was her condo in Century City and now it is her house in Henderson, Nevada.

For the first time ever, a court in China will hear a case of a man denied a job because he is HIV positive. “The fact that the People’s Court has accepted the case indicates that the rule of law in China is progressing.”

New York's Tap Water Is'nt Kosher

Gizmodo reports that NYC’s famously delicious tap water is actually full of jillions of microscopic shellfish called copepods. This is rather alarming news for the city’s Orthodox, especially as the High Holy Days approach. As NYC’s water supply is of such high quality that the EPA does not require mechanical filtering, the nation’s “leading kosher certification organization” has issued the following instructions:

1 ) Tap water in New York City should be filtered before drinking

2 ) Products already manufactured may be used, even if made with unfiltered water

3 ) The water supply of dishwashers does not require filtering. Similarly, dishes may be washed by hand in unfiltered water if the dishes are subsequently towel dried or left to drip-dry without “puddles” of water in them

4 ) Water should not be filtered on Shabbat or Yom Tov because of the prohibition of borer. Rather, filtering should be done before Shabbat and water should be stored for Shabbat use. One may, however, filter water for non-food purposes on Shabbat and Yom Tov.

5 ) Bottled water is permitted for use.
